1969Occupations was a very controversial body of post-WWII work. Despite his later career mainly as a painter, the piece was essentially a performance (exhibited as a body of photographs) performed by the artist himself. Kiefer, as a young student, photographed himself standing around European monuments making the Nazi salute. Kiefer knew their would be a resounding upset when the work was shown in Germany (which, undoubtedly there was) however the point was to bring light to the shame of their own natural history which was not being discussed.

I love this and a lot of Panter’s stuff. It was weird looking at some of his paintings he did like in the 70s, because they kinda reminded me of some of mine, which freaked me out cause I figured people would think I was ripping him off, when really I’m just now getting into the guy in the past year.
Update: 11 year old trans girl lost appeal
The above article is an update. Her mother went to appeal to keep her out of the psychiatric ward and lost. She will be institutionalized because of her expression of her gender. She will be held until she conforms to male gender and then released to foster care, not her mother who was supporting her.
Please, if you haven’t signed the petition, sign it, reblog it, ask your friends to sign it. We’ve managed to get 40K signatures for a pageant model, we’ve only gotten 11K for a little girl about to have her life ruined. Lets get on the ball and spread the word.
